Resumen
Introducción: La estética facial afecta no sólo a cómo la sociedad percibe a las personas sino también a cómo se perciben a sí mismas. La apariencia de los dientes y la sonrisa de una persona son los principales componentes críticos del atractivo facial. Objetivo: Comprobar la percepción de los adolescentes sobre la estética dental utilizando los criterios de la OMS. Diseño: Revisión sistemática de estudios publicados entre 2002 y 2022. Fuentes de datos: PubMed, Los criterios de elegibilidad fueron artículos utilizando: Escala de Impacto Subjetivo de la Estética Oral (OASIS), una escala visual y el Índice de Estética Dental (DAI). Selección de estudios: Cinco revisores buscaron, seleccionaron y extrajeron información de los artículos seleccionados. Todos los análisis agrupados se basaron en modelos de efectos aleatorios. Resultados: De 26 artículos, 20 utilizaron los criterios de la OMS Y 6 cumplieron los criterios de inclusión. Todos los artículos tenían datos adecuados para resumirlos en un metanálisis. La percepción de los adolescentes no cambió mucho a lo largo de los años, ya que no hubo diferencias en ella, incluso los que se sometieron a tratamiento ortodóncico no tuvieron cambios. Conclusiones: La situación psicológica y el bienestar oral afectan a la percepción de los adolescentes. Los resultados proceden de 6 países. La percepción de los adolescentes también se ve influida por la maloclusión.
