Resumen
Introducción: Las patologías dentales tienen un efecto adverso sobre la salud general, la calidad de vida y, en sinergia con trastornos respiratorios como el asma, su impacto se potencia de forma perjudicial. El aspecto de los dientes y la sonrisa de una persona son los principales componentes críticos del atractivo facial. Objetivo: Determinar la existencia de una relación causal entre el asma y los patógenos dentales. Diseño: Revisión sistemática de estudios publicados entre 2011 y 2023. Fuentes de datos: PubMed. Selección de estudios: 5 revisores buscaron, seleccionaron y extrajeron información de los artículos. Resultados: de 1407 informes, se incluyeron 56 estudios y se excluyeron 1345 por criterios de búsqueda no coincidentes, de los 56 estudios finalmente se incluyeron 13 estudios que tenían datos adecuados. Conclusiones: Si existe relación entre la salud oral y el asma debido al efecto de inmunosupresión de los fármacos utilizados para combatir esta enfermedad que aumenta el riesgo de problemas orales como candidiasis, xerostomía, bruxismo, caries y desgaste dental.
